News: Impact Provide Trim & Dust Handling Solution to Support Quebecor World Re-Investment Programme

20/01/2007

Quebecor World Plc, a Corby based commercial printer have awarded Impact Air Systems a contract to provide the waste trim and dust extraction system to support their recent re-investment programme.

Quebecor have recently completed the installation of brand new a KBA Compactor 818 heat set web press requiring a range of dust extraction to the folder slitting stations and two Gammerler RS 134 rotary trimming machines requiring edge trim extraction.

To support the re-investment, Impact Air Systems have relocated the majority of the waste equipment such as the air Separator, rotary valve, supporting steelwork, diverter drop chute and reverse jet filter system from Quebecor's plant number 3 to plant number 2.

Impact's challenge was to dismantle and transport the massive equipment safely and economically from plant number 3 and to re-engineer and reinstall the old equipment to incorporate the newly designed waste extraction system serving the new press and trimmers being installed in plant number 2.

Tight installation deadlines and a site controlled under CDM regulations meant this project needed closely controlling. Impacts unique infrastructure meant that our dedicated projects team worked very closely with the site engineering and facilities staff to ensure a professional, time conscious and hassle free installation was completed.

The system was tailored to allow for the future planned installation of a further KBA Compactor 818 press. The other key features included:-

  1. A summer / winter clean air return system allowing precious heated air to be returned to the factory during the winter months, but allow divert to atmosphere in the summer months.
  2. A fully automated system control panel constructed using the high quality, reliable and easily replaceable components.
  3. Clever engineering, reliable operation and a competitive price!
Engineering Services Manager and project leader John Parsons said "Impact have always promised and delivered good quality and reliable systems to Quebecor supported by a hassle free installation. The documentation requested to support the CDM health & safety requirements were all made available when requested along with system documentation once the system was finally commissioned. We will continue to use Impact Air System for any future support and to keep our existing equipment in peak condition with their service division"
