Industry Sectors : Local Exhaust Ventilation

Every year thousands of people die of lung disease or get asthma because of airborne contaminants they have breathed in at work. If your work activities produce dust, mist, fume, gas or vapour, your staff may be at risk and you must take action to protect them.

An LEV system is the answer (Local Exhaust Ventilation). The basic design principle is simple, convey the contaminant to a point where it is either discharged into the atmosphere or removed from the system.

You are probably aware of these facts already and may even have some form of LEV system installed, but if you have - do you know if it is working properly?

It is estimated that 60% of businesses who have LEV systems are breaking the law because they don’t have them examined and tested.

Under COSHH Regulations you are legally obliged to ensure that your LEV works effectively. You should:
  • regularly check and maintain the system
  • have it ‘thoroughly examined and tested’ at least once every 14 months (frequency should depend on the complexity of the system and the seriousness of the consequences, should it go wrong)

You should also have a user manual, logbook and training.

So, are you doing enough?
Answer the following questions…
  • Did you get a commissioning report when the LEV was installed? This should give you the measurements taken at the time to show that the system was working effectively.
  • Have you had training and do you have a user manual to explain how the system works and what you should do to maintain it?
  • Have you got an up to date logbook showing records of thorough examinations and tests?
  • Do you know when the system is due a thorough examination?

If you answered ‘no’ to any of the questions, then you need to take action, call us on 0116 2448855.EV...

Introducing Impact’s Technical Services Division
Impact Air System’s Services Division are experts in LEV testing, maintenance and repairs. We offer you everything required to ensure your legal compliance and efficient operation. Our team of experienced technicians are trained to BOHS P601 standard and surpass many so-called experts.

Our professional, hands-on approach is tailored to today’s demanding and often hostile production environments.

Our thorough examination and testing (known as TEAT) exceeds the requirements of the latest HSE guidance (HSG193, HSG258) and the COSHH Regulations 2002. Using the most up to date instrumentation, we are able to conduct the tests with minimum disruption to your operations.

More than just a report
As part of our service we will provide you with a free engineering report. The report doesn’t only contain the results of the tests but will also include recommended modifications to improve performance. Our technicians are able to use their years of experience to identify physical design flaws, defects and maintenance issues that might affect performance.

Keep your staff safe and your insurers happy!
Don’t waste any time… The effects of inhalation are not always immediate. The problems and claims come later in life. The number of claims is rising and so are the insurance premiums.

To book your thorough examination and test (TEAT) call us on 0116 2448855 or email us at service@impactair.co.uk.

Feeling hot under the collar?
If you are feeling a little uncomfortable because you haven’t got sufficient LEV, don’t panic. Just give us a call. Our experienced project team would be only too happy to design, manufacture and install an efficient system to fulfill your requirements.
