Services : Trim Cutter Services

The trim cutter works on a rotary cutting principle. Material is cut at the interface between a fixed bed knife and a number of rotor mounted knives to provide at least two cuts for each complete rotation.

As with all types of knives, from time to time, depending on application and operating hours you will need to have the knives on your cutter re-sharpened and set. As we realise the importance of keeping your extraction system operating to its optimum level at all times we offer you two types of trim cutter service.

How they work

Re-sharpen & set:
You return the cutter to us for the knives to be re-sharpened and set by our purpose trained engineers. In addition, a thorough internal inspection including bearings, and clean up procedure is also carried out. The only downfall with this service is that your cutter could be out of your system for up to 7* days in busy periods. (*estimated UK lead time)

Exchange:
You call us to alert us that the knives are ready to be re-sharpened and set. We will ask for a purchase order number and then arrange for a refurbished, serviced, replica cutter to be despatched to you within 1 or 2 days (dependent on availability). When you receive the cutter it should be swapped with the worn cutter. The result is that you will only suffer minutes of downtime and maximum operating efficiency will be restored. The worn cutter must then be returned to us within 14 days.

Going Technical
Re-sharpening theory
Worn or damaged knives must always be re-sharpened before adjusting cutting clearances.

Procedure
The re-sharpening and re-setting of the knives is a very precise procedure with clearances being set as little as 0.00025" (6.35µ) and must only be carried out by a skilled engineer who is familiar with the 78 Series and who has been suitably trained in the use of surface and cylindrical grinding. You should also note that the knives couldn't be precision set to the required accuracy unless they are fitted into the cutter unit. In other words, the knives cannot be removed, sharpened and then re-fitted. With these facts in mind we strongly recommend that when the time arises, you contact us and we will arrange for the necessary work to be carried out to the highest possible standard.
